West Ham United: Frank Lampard Link Sparks Outrage
The pressure on Julen Lopetegui’s tenure as West Ham United head coach continues to mount, with speculation surrounding his potential replacement intensifying. However, one suggestion has left Hammers fans aghast: Frank Lampard.
TalkSPORT’s Jeff Stelling recently floated the idea of Lampard returning to his former club, sparking widespread dismay. Stelling said, “I’m going to mention someone who might divide opinions. Is it time, if Lopetegui goes, for West Ham to bring Frank Lampard home? Just a thought. He is available. He’s been mentioned in connection with the Roma job, but West Ham would be ideal for him.”
This proposal has been met with outrage, and understandably so. Lampard’s acrimonious departure from West Ham in 2001, followed by his successful stint at Chelsea, has created lasting animosity between the player and the Hammers faithful.
Lampard’s criticisms of West Ham and its fans during his Chelsea days, coupled with his overt celebrations when scoring against his former club, have left an indelible mark. The notion of him returning as manager is, therefore, unthinkable for many.
Stelling’s suggestion has been branded an insult to West Ham fans, who still harbor resentment towards Lampard. With Lopetegui’s position precarious, the club requires a unifying figure, not one who would reopen old wounds.
As West Ham searches for a potential replacement, nine currently available managers are considered superior options to Lopetegui. However, Lampard’s name should not be entertained.
The Hammers’ faithful will be hoping for a more inspired choice, one that acknowledges the club’s history and values. For now, the Lampard speculation serves only to frustrate and antagonize.
