Celtic Target Kelleher: Sutton Urges Liverpool Keeper to Make Paradise Move
By Patrick Sinat, Celtic Correspondent
Chris Sutton, the former Celtic striker, has endorsed Caoimhin Kelleher’s potential move to Celtic, citing the Liverpool goalkeeper’s Irish roots and the club’s need for a top-class keeper.
“Caoimhin Kelleher could move anywhere, really,” Sutton said on It’s All Kicking Off. “He’s the best back-up keeper I’ve ever seen in the Premier League. Celtic, due to his Irish roots, would be a great fit.”
Kelleher’s Future in Doubt
The Republic of Ireland international has struggled to displace Alisson Becker as Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper. With his contract expiring in 2026, Kelleher has expressed his desire to become a number one goalkeeper.
“I love the club, I love the fans, and I have a great relationship with the players and the staff,” Kelleher said. “Whether it’s here at Liverpool or somewhere else, I do feel the next step for me is to be a No 1.”
Previous Links to Celtic
Kelleher has been linked to Celtic several times, with a reported £15 million price tag in June. While Celtic’s financial health is strong, Gary Gillespie warned that smaller Premier League clubs could offer more lucrative deals.
“Celtic’s financial situation is good, but they might struggle to match the wages offered by smaller Premier League clubs,” Gillespie said.
Sutton’s endorsement adds to the speculation surrounding Kelleher’s future. Celtic’s interest in the keeper is well-documented, and Kelleher’s Irish heritage makes the move an attractive proposition.
