Celtic Manager Brendan Rodgers Praises Substitute Greg Taylor Following Victory Over Aberdeen

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has hailed the impact of substitute Greg Taylor, who provided the assist for Reo Hatate’s winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Aberdeen. The match, played in challenging conditions at Pittodrie Stadium, saw Celtic assert their dominance at the top of the Premiership.

Rodgers praised his team’s persistence and mentality, describing the conditions as “horrendous” for football. He noted that Celtic’s ability to adapt and control the game ultimately led to their victory.

“We had to showcase our attitude and mentality,” Rodgers said. “You’re way up in the north of Scotland, the rain, the wind is pouring in, our supporters are stuck in a corner with no cover. We have to do it for them, do it for ourselves. The players showed a great mentality and a great bravery to still try to play how we want to play, and eventually we get a reward for that.”

Rodgers also praised the performances of his centre halves, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty, as well as goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. He highlighted the importance of their defensive efforts, particularly in the latter stages of the game.

“You have to stand up and be counted on nights like that, when it’s not perfect,” Rodgers said. “You know when you’re 1-0 up late in the game that you will have to able to do that. I thought Kasper’s handling was so clean and pure in the game, the two centre-halves were strong, everything in the box they were there blocking it. That’s what you need.”

The Celtic manager also explained the tactical decision behind substituting Alex Valle with Greg Taylor, citing the need to bring on a player with more quality on the inside.

“He (Valle) was on a booking and we just needed to be a little cleaner, because of how they were pressing,” Rodgers said. “We wanted Greg’s quality on the inside to come out. Alex was on a booking, he was playing more on the outside because he’s dynamic, he wants to run. But our space was on the inside, so it was more tactical than injury. He is fine.”
