Ross County Suffers Crushing 5-0 Defeat at Celtic Park
Celtic’s ruthless first-half performance proved too much for Ross County, as the Scottish champions secured a resounding 5-0 victory at Celtic Park.
Ross County manager Don Cowie acknowledged that his team was outclassed by a Celtic side that made six changes from their midweek Champions League draw against Club Brugge. Cowie stated: “We were playing against a Champion League team, and it’s (about) having that realism that if they play really well, that it’s a really tough afternoon.”
Cowie attributed the defeat to Celtic’s relentless pressure, particularly during a 15-minute spell in the first half. He said: “They had a 15-minute spell where they didn’t let us breathe, and they were relentless, and that’s what they do, that’s why they’re playing at the level that they do.”
The hosts took the lead through Liam Scales’ header from a corner, and further goals from Luke McCowan, Paulo Bernardo, Callum McGregor, and Adam Idah sealed the victory for Celtic.
Cowie expressed frustration with his team’s inability to cope with Celtic’s attacking prowess, particularly in the first half. He noted that conceding the first goal from a set-piece was particularly disappointing.
Despite the heavy defeat, Cowie’s focus has already shifted to Ross County’s next match against Rangers. He will be seeking to rally his team and ensure they are better prepared for the challenge ahead.
In contrast, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was pleased with his team’s performance, which maintained their unbeaten domestic record this season. The victory also stretched Celtic’s lead at the top of the Premiership to five points.
