Blackburn Rovers Boss John Eustace Reveals Fixture Schedule ‘Played into Their Hands’ Against Leeds United

Blackburn Rovers head coach John Eustace has attributed his team’s 1-0 victory over Leeds United to the Championship fixture schedule, which he believes “played into their hands.”

Todd Cantwell’s penalty in the 22nd minute proved to be the decisive factor, as Rovers secured their third consecutive win and climbed to eighth in the table.

Eustace expressed his pride in his team’s performance, stating: “Outstanding performance. (I’m) Proud of the group win, lose or draw. A pleasure to work with. (I’m) Proud of the boys.”

The Rovers boss acknowledged that his team had benefited from having an extra day’s rest, having played one fewer game than Leeds United this week. Their scheduled match against Portsmouth was postponed at the last minute, allowing Eustace to freshen up his team.

Eustace noted: “Only our second game, not our third. That played into our hands a little maybe. We were brave playing out from the back. Gave them a few opportunities, but tried to play the right way. We didn’t just sit in.”

Despite the significance of the win, Eustace cautioned against getting carried away, emphasizing the relentless nature of the Championship. “Very important nobody gets carried away,” he added. “This league is relentless.”

The defeat leaves Leeds United in second position, three points behind leaders Sheffield United, who leapfrogged the Whites into top spot after defeating Sunderland at Bramall Lane.
