Mark Wilson, a former Celtic player, has offered a contrasting view to Paul Merson’s assessment of the atmosphere at Celtic Park during the Champions League match against Club Brugge. Merson had described the atmosphere as “electric,” but Wilson felt that it was “pretty flat” for much of the game.

Wilson’s comments, made on Sky Sports News, suggested that the Celtic supporters were subdued, particularly during the first 45 minutes. He attributed this to the way Brugge played, which seemed to nullify the usual energetic atmosphere at Celtic Park.

“To be honest, I don’t think they did (do enough to win the game, Celtic),” Wilson said. “To be honest, it was a pretty strange watch. Paul Merson is talking about the electric atmosphere at Celtic Park, it certainly was that before the game, but about five minutes in, it was pretty flat. Probably down to the way Brugge played.”

Wilson’s assessment highlights the challenges Celtic faced in breaking down a well-organized Brugge side. Despite dominating possession, Celtic struggled to create clear-cut chances, and the match ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw.
