Transfer News: Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, and Barnsley Feature in Latest Updates

The January transfer window continues to throw up surprises, with deals being completed up and down the football pyramid. In our latest transfer news round-up, we focus on the latest developments involving Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, and Barnsley.

Sheffield United are reportedly eyeing a move for Sheffield Wednesday star Shea Charles. The 21-year-old Northern Ireland international has been in impressive form for the Owls this season, and his performances have not gone unnoticed. According to reports, the Blades are considering a move for Charles, who has also been linked with a return to his parent club Southampton.

Charles’s future at Hillsborough has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, with Southampton recalling him from his loan spell. However, Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri has confirmed that the possibility of a fresh agreement being reached has not been ruled out, and Charles could still feature for the club in their next two games.

Meanwhile, Barnsley boss Darrell Clarke has confirmed that the club has not received any bids for midfielder Adam Phillips. The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Swansea City and Preston North End, but Clarke insists that no offers have been made.

“Phillo is obviously a talented player, but there’s been no bids,” Clarke said. “We’ve obviously got quite a few talented players, and there’s been no bids for any of our other leading players. It’s business as usual. It’s one of those things as a manager where you expect people to be interested in good players. I’d be more concerned if there was nobody talking about my players. It’s just the nature of the beast, and we get on with it.”

In other news, Celtic are reportedly set to bid for Leeds United-linked attacker Louie Barry. The 21-year-old has been linked with a raft of Championship clubs, including Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, but Celtic are believed to be preparing a seven-figure bid for the Aston Villa youngster.

Sheffield United are also considering a move for former Blade Tommy Doyle. The 22-year-old spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Bramall Lane and has struggled to establish himself at Wolverhampton Wanderers this season. According to reports, the Blades are weighing up a move for Doyle, who has made just three league starts for Wolves this season.

In League Two, Morecambe have added former Bradford City midfielder Callum Cooke to their ranks. Cooke played under Derek Adams during his time at Bradford and has been reunited with his former boss at the Globe Arena.

Finally, former Hull City and Middlesbrough man Aaron Connolly has signed for Millwall. The 24-year-old spent last season at Hull before departing and linking up with Sunderland, but has found opportunities limited at the Stadium of Light. Connolly has signed for the Lions and will be eligible to face his former club Hull City at the weekend.

Millwall’s director of football Steve Gallen said: “Still only 24, Aaron has a lot of experience for his age. He is at his best when running at defenders, and we hope he gets plenty of opportunities to do that with us.”
