Rangers Legend Concedes Title to Celtic, but Warns Against Complacency
Derek Ferguson, a Rangers hero, has reluctantly admitted that he cannot envision his former club bridging the 11-point gap separating them from Celtic. However, Ferguson remains optimistic that Rangers can still “put a dent” in Brendan Rodgers’ side’s aspirations.
Celtic’s recent 1-0 victory over Aberdeen, courtesy of a late Reo Hatate winner, has extended their lead at the top of the Premiership table to seven points. The Hoops also possess a game in hand over Jimmy Thelin’s men, while Rangers trail by a significant 11-point margin.
Ferguson’s concession came during a discussion with fellow pundits James McFadden and Gordon Dalziel on the ‘Right in the Coupon’ podcast. Host Si Ferry posed the question of whether the league title was already a foregone conclusion, given Celtic’s impressive form.
The Hoops have dropped a mere two points all season, and that was from a winning position after Aberdeen staged a remarkable comeback at Parkhead earlier in the season. Celtic’s dominance has raised questions about the competitiveness of the title race, with Ferguson acknowledging that Rangers face an uphill battle to catch their rivals.
