Leeds United and Middlesbrough Face Potential Suspension Concerns Ahead of Crucial Clash
Leeds United’s upcoming encounter with Middlesbrough at Elland Road could be impacted by the potential suspensions of key players from both teams. According to EFL rules, any player accumulating five yellow cards by the end of game-week 19 must serve a one-match ban.
Leeds United’s Willy Gnonto and Joe Rodon are both walking a tightrope, having received four yellow cards each. With the Whites’ match against Derby County on Saturday being their 19th league game, Gnonto and Rodon must navigate the encounter without receiving a fifth caution, lest they miss the crucial midweek clash with Middlesbrough.
Remarkably, Rodon has avoided a fifth yellow card through his last nine league appearances, while Gnonto has managed to steer clear of a decisive caution in his last six showings. The potential loss of either player would be a significant blow to Leeds United, given their consistent performances this season.
However, Daniel Farke’s side has adequate cover for both Gnonto and Rodon. The ever-improving fitness of free agent Josuha Guilavogui has eased concerns regarding Rodon’s potential absence, while the availability of Manor Solomon, Largie Ramazani, and Dan James provides sufficient options to replace Gnonto.
Middlesbrough, meanwhile, face similar concerns, with defender George Edmundson and on-loan Liverpool winger Ben Doak both at risk of missing the Elland Road encounter due to suspension. Edmundson has avoided a fifth yellow card in his last two games, while Doak has been Boro’s creative outlet, providing five assists in his last five appearances.
