Celtic Boss Brendan Rodgers Eyes Key Signing to Complete His Squad

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is reportedly on the hunt for a single key signing in the January transfer window, one that could complete his squad and take the Hoops to the next level. According to former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner, Rodgers is in need of a physical presence in the number six position to ease the burden on skipper Callum McGregor.

Bonner, who was speaking on Sportsound, believes that the addition of a strong, technically gifted player would allow Rodgers to implement a change of shape, particularly in European competitions. “Rodgers here for the period. He’s enjoying himself at the moment. He’s building a team. And I think there’s a little bit more to go on. I think he’ll go to the market again and try and find the player that could come in alongside Callum McGregor,” Bonner said.

“Callum could play, actually, further forward for the team. But when it comes to Europe, where you’re looking for maybe two players to play in that number six, I think he could do with one, bigger, stronger, but still technically good player. And that may take a bit of money, but it could also be the one that would finish this team off.”

While Celtic have been linked with attacking signings, including a new left-winger and a third striker, Bonner’s comments suggest that Rodgers’ priorities may lie elsewhere. The Celtic boss has already hinted that he will be active in the transfer market next month, and the addition of a physical presence in midfield could be the key to unlocking his team’s full potential.
