Honduras Boss Rueda Criticizes Celtic’s Luis Palma After CONCACAF Nations League Collapse

Honduras manager Reinaldo Rueda has singled out Celtic winger Luis Palma for criticism following their 4-0 collapse against Mexico in the CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final second leg.

Palma, who scored twice in the first leg, was substituted at halftime after struggling to make an impact. Rueda attributed Palma’s difficulties to his lack of rhythm, citing the player’s limited game time at Celtic.

“For all we know from the previous match at the Azteca, the altitude is hard for Luis when he comes with rhythm and today without rhythm it was going to be harder for him,” Rueda said. “He played a good half but the full-back he had overcame him and he was left alone with Rosales and that’s where Mexico attacked us a lot.”

Rueda also expressed disappointment with Palma’s inability to track back and support his teammate, stating, “We had Obregón, who is a striker, a goal scorer, and to stop that full-back and the offensive depth to accompany Yustin Arboleda, but unfortunately he didn’t get into the game and was unbalanced.”

Palma’s statistics from the match reflect his struggles, with a Fotmob rating of 6.2, 13 touches, and only four successful passes. Defensively, he won five duels, made one clearance, and won two tackles.

The defeat marked Honduras’ second consecutive exit at the same stage of the competition to Mexico.
