West Ham United Rules Out Graham Potter as Potential Julen Lopetegui Successor
West Ham United’s majority shareholder, David Sullivan, has reportedly made a decision on hiring former Brighton boss Graham Potter as a potential replacement for under-fire manager Julen Lopetegui. According to GiveMeSport, Sullivan has opted against appointing Potter, citing concerns over the 49-year-old’s suitability for the role.
Lopetegui’s position has come under scrutiny following West Ham’s dismal start to the season, with the team sitting 14th in the Premier League table and having won just three league games. The Spaniard’s tactics and team selections have been questioned, particularly after the 0-0 draw against Everton.
Arsenal legend Martin Keown believes Lopetegui has lost the dressing room, stating, “It’s like Lopetegui has lost the players a little bit, he is shouting from the sidelines but some of his players are walking around… It looks a stroll in the park for Everton at the moment and that is a real worry for West Ham.”
Potter, who was sacked by Chelsea in April 2023, had been linked with the West Ham job, but Sullivan’s decision raises doubts about the club’s managerial future. Pep Guardiola has praised Potter as “the best” English manager, while Adam Lallana described him as “world-class” during their time together at Brighton.
