Martin Keown Clashes with Simon Jordan Over Celtic’s Dominant League Cup Win
The aftermath of Celtic’s resounding 6-0 victory over Aberdeen in the League Cup semi-final has sparked a heated debate among pundits. During a discussion on the use of pyrotechnics, Keown attempted to shift the focus to Celtic’s impressive display, saying, “Let’s have a last word on the football. Fireworks on the Celtic game between Aberdeen, 6-0. That’s pretty remarkable, isn’t it, joint top of the table?”
Jordan responded, downplaying the result’s significance, “This is disconcerting for the SPFL because what you want in that league is teams offering competition. And the fact that Aberdeen have just had their backsides handed to them by Brendan Rodgers’ in-form Celtic side who were criticised a few weeks ago [for the 2-2 draw].”
Keown countered, “They did draw with them recently, didn’t they? This is a great result and a real message.”
The exchange highlights the differing perspectives on Celtic’s dominant win. While Jordan views it as a negative for the SPFL, Keown sees it as a testament to Celtic’s strength.
Celtic’s convincing victory has boosted morale ahead of their Champions League tie against RB Leipzig. Following their draw with Atalanta, the Hoops now have a renewed sense of optimism.
