Premier League Clarifies Beto’s Disallowed Goal in Everton’s Defeat to Southampton
The Premier League has issued a statement confirming that Everton’s Beto was indeed offside when he scored a late goal in Saturday’s match against Southampton at St Mary’s.

Beto’s strike, which would have leveled the score, was initially awarded by the on-pitch referee and assistant referee. However, following a lengthy VAR review, officials at Stockley Park overturned the decision.

A statement on the Premier League’s match centre X account explained: “Beto’s goal was initially awarded on-field. VAR checked and confirmed that Beto was in an offside position and recommended that the goal was disallowed.”

The disallowed goal proved pivotal, as Everton ultimately succumbed to a 1-0 defeat, courtesy of Adam Armstrong’s goal. This loss marked Everton’s first defeat in six matches and dropped them to 16th in the table, just four points above Ipswich Town in the relegation zone.
