Dundee Submit Additional Footage to SFA Amid Controversy Over Celtic Defeat
Dundee have lodged an official complaint with the Scottish Football Association (SFA), submitting extra footage of two contentious incidents from their 2-0 defeat to Celtic at Parkhead on Wednesday.
Manager Tony Docherty expressed dismay over the penalty awarded to Celtic, converted by Arne Engels, and an alleged handball by defender Liam Scales inside the box.
A key point of contention is the challenge on midfielder Mo Sylla by Engels in the build-up to the penalty. According to The Courier, Dundee possesses footage from a different angle, not broadcast in the post-match highlights, which appears to show a clear pull on Sylla’s shirt. Notably, referee Ross Hardie’s view seems impeded by Sylla’s body, while the assistant referee was positioned on the opposite side of the pitch.
VAR officials Mathew McDermid and Andrew McWilliam opted not to intervene.
Docherty voiced his frustration in the post-match press conference: “The penalty is really soft. There’s a foul that leads up to it on Mo Sylla. I don’t know why they don’t pick that up. I’ve seen it back. Kyogo goes down and Tony’s (Antonio Portales) telling me, and I’ve seen it myself, I don’t think it’s a penalty. But when it goes to 2-0, that makes it so much more difficult. I don’t think the boys deserved that.”
When questioned about his conversation with the officials, Docherty added: “I just asked if they checked. They said they did. But I do think there’s a strong case that it was a free kick.”
Dundee’s submission of additional footage aims to prompt the SFA’s Key Incident Review Panel to reassess the decisions made during the match.
This development highlights the ongoing debate surrounding video technology in Scottish football and its impact on match outcomes.
