Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has launched a blistering attack on his old club, claiming they are “leaderless” and “miles behind” Aberdeen, following their latest defeat. Boyd’s rant comes hot on the heels of Graeme Souness’s earlier assertion that there is no significant gap between Celtic and Rangers.

Souness’s comments, made at the start of the season, have been thoroughly debunked by Celtic’s dominant display, which sees them nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table. Boyd, however, has taken it a step further, highlighting the stark contrast between Rangers and Aberdeen.

“Aberdeen are miles ahead of Rangers, in terms of structure and even a work ethic to go and play,” Boyd told Sky Sports. “They have recruited a team within £2 million, sold their best player, and built this team on £2 million. Rangers have spent over £10 million and downgraded in every single position.”

Boyd’s scathing critique has left Souness’s earlier claims looking increasingly embarrassing. The former Liverpool midfielder had stated, “I don’t think there is such a big gap [between Celtic and Rangers]. I really don’t.”
